Johnson County Mental Health Center (JCMHC) is adding a new Co-Responder Team Leader position to their program. This will be the third Co-Responder Team Leader, allowing for increased leadership presence within the police departments and support to the staff.
The JCMHC program started in 2011 with one co-responder in Olathe, KS and has continued to grow, currently having 24 co-responder positions (2 are case manager level) covering 7 "units" and 15 police departments. Refer to the the Johnson County Co-Responder map to see how the program is set up currently. In 2025, the co-responders conducted over 4,000 911 response, nearly 10,000 outreaches (by phone and in person) and over 13,000 specialty interventions.
The Co-Responder Team Leader position will office out one of the police departments and responsible for at least one unit. It has yet to be determined how the units will be divided with the new team leader addition. The position will be response for overseeing and supporting the co-responders, including routine supervision, training and quality reviews. The team leader will occasionally spend time in the field with field supervision and some coverage if there are no co-responders available.
The selected candidate must complete a background and polygraph with the police departments prior to final offer.
