The Behavioral Health Co-Responder is a non-traditional position where the clinician responds to 911 crisis calls for behavioral health emergencies. Response is done in tandem with law enforcement personnel to provide community-based mental health interventions on-scene. This responder uses skills to de-escalate and intervene in moments of crisis, conducts brief mental health diagnostic evaluations and risk assessments, and conducts follow-up treatment, connection to resources, and documentation with the goal of reducing preventable arrests and repeat mental health calls. Duty hours are determined by the needs of the partnering law enforcement organizations but tend to be Mondays-Fridays 8am-5pm.
